NATIONAL EXPRESS BUS SERVICE CHANGES IN COVENTRY FROM SEPTEMBER 4, 2022.

National Express Coventry is changing bus services beginning on September 4th, including changed timetable frequencies to accommodate an increase in travel following the summer holidays.

The most recent confirmed modifications will improve travel by changing services to match consumer demand and account for the predicted increase in traffic beginning in September.

Minor changes to bus frequency and timetables will be made in some parts of Coventry. A list of further changes is provided below:

Service 5 will run every 60 minutes along the present 5 route to Radford, Burnaby Road, and Cherry Tree through Lythalls, with hourly extensions to Cherry Tree via Lythalls. The service between Cherry Tree and Arena Shopping Park will be discontinued. A new 5B service will run along Everdon Road.

Service 5A will run every 30 minutes through Kingsbury Road to Chapelfields (Westbury Road).

Service 5B – This new route will run every 60 minutes along the present 5 route to Radford, Burnaby Road, and Everdon Road, with hourly extensions to Everdon Road.

Services 5, 5A, and 5B provide a 15-minute service between the city centre and Coundon and a 30-minute service between the city centre and Radford.

Service 7A – between Belgrade Theatre and Chapelfields – will be discontinued.

Service 53 is a new school-only service that runs between Spon End and West Coventry Academy via Tile Hill North.

Route 54 is a new school-only service that runs between the city centre and West Coventry Academy via Allesley Village, Park Hill, and Tile Hill North.

Service 55 is a new school day only service that runs from Allesley Park to West Coventry Academy via Tile Hill North.

Services 57/58/58A will be phased out and replaced by the new 53, 54, and 55 services.

Service S36 is no longer available.

National Express Coventry Commercial Director Chris Gibbens stated:

“With children returning to school in September, roads will be busier and more people will be travelling.” These latest schedule enhancements will keep the region moving by allowing our buses to run consistently and get our clients where they need to go.

“A limited number of services are changing to better serve our customers’ travel patterns while also offering general enhancements for everyone – all at the same fantastic pricing.” As a result, we’d like to advise clients to double-check the most recent timetables before departing.

“Recent cost rises have impacted many individuals in Coventry and the surrounding West Midlands, so we’re working hard to make it easier for new and existing customers to save money.” Our fares remain frozen, and we’ve added new payment options, such as the ability to purchase any aboard ticket using a contactless card or phone.”

National Express Coventry was the first firm outside of London to adopt contactless weekly capping in summer 2021, which means customers can travel as much as they want for seven days and will be charged no more than the cost of a weekly ticket – regardless of how many journeys they make.

The biggest bus company has now gone a step further to make it easier to pay for other tickets. Customers at National Express Coventry can now use contactless to purchase any onboard ticket, including group tickets and £1 kid add-ons. Autumn/Winter Season at Warwick Arts Centre in Coventry

Internationally recognised theatrical companies, leading artists, top comedians, and Stick Man will perform at the Coventry venue beginning in the autumn of 2022.

Turner Prize nominees, internationally renowned dance companies, and some of the biggest names in stand-up comedy headline the Autumn/Winter 2022-2023 season at Warwick Arts Centre.

Season highlights at the Coventry venue include: the European premiere of Rewards For The Tribe (5-8 Oct 2022), in which two of Australia’s most influential and innovative dance companies, Chunky Move and Restless Dance Theatre, collaborate for the first time; Kin (19-22 Oct 2022), the eighth production from award-winning and internationally acclaimed physical theatre company Gecko, which presents experiences of migration, racism, empathy, and home for a poetically intoxicating p

Continuing to push the envelope, Leo and Hyde’s Double Life (26-30 Oct 2022) fuses a musical with virtual reality as gamer Guy searches for love, while Wendy Houstoun’s Watch It! (6-7 Dec 2022) may be the last show ever from the innovative performer who’s built up a huge body of groundbreaking work since emerging in the 1980s.

Over half-term, Leamington Spa’s Motionhouse returns with the lunar adventure Starchitects (27-30 Oct 2022), while Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s Stick Man (3-31 Dec 2022) makes for the ideal Christmas entertainment! Free Family Sundays (8 Oct-11 Dec 2022, term time only) provide free drop-in creative workshops every Sunday afternoon, as well as regular Weekend Family Films.

The Aurora Orchestra kicks off the Classical programme on October 7, 2022, followed by a Gala Concert celebrating the distinguished 40-year career of one of the world’s best musicians, violinist Maxim Vengerov (3 Dec 2022).

Alt. folk sensation Grace Petrie (15 Oct 2022), multi-award-winning West Mid’s jazz wunderkind Xhosa Cole (15 Oct 2022), The Punch Brothers and Nickel Creek creator Chris Thile (10 Nov 2022), backed by Sam Amidon, and Ukrainian composer and harpist Alina Bzhezhinska (8 Dec 2022). There’s also a special one-off commemorating the 15th anniversary of seminal record label Erased Tapes (20 November 2022), featuring musicians from the label such as Rival Consoles and Penguin Cafe.

For comedy aficionados, Dave Gorman (6 Oct 2022), Jessica Fostekew (7 Oct 2022), singing duet Flo and Joan (13 Oct 2022), Jon Richardson (27-28 Oct 2022), Paul Chowdhry (6 Nov 2022), Sara Pascoe (2 Dec 2022), and Shaparak Khorsandi will all make appearances (10 Dec 2022).

The venue will also be visited by astronaut Tim Peake (23 Sep 2022), 2019 Booker Prize Winner Bernardine Evaristo (9 Oct 2022), and much-loved presenter/tennis player Sue Barker (14 Oct 2022), as well as Gyles Brandreth (12 Oct 2022), while the blockbuster free visual arts exhibition is Radical Landscapes (6 Oct-18 Dec 2022). The group art display, which is travelling from Tate Liverpool to Warwick Arts Centre, includes works from two Turner Prize 2022 nominees (Ingrid Pollard and Veronica Ryan), as well as work by recognised figures such as Henry Moore, Jeremy Deller, and Hurvin Anderson.

Doreen Foster, Director of Warwick Arts Centre, commented on the season: “This is our first full season with all of our spaces fully open from the start of the season, a year after our building’s transformation, and we’re making the most of it, with performances, activities, and screenings filling our theatres, hall, gallery, cinema, and even foyer spaces.

“We are delighted to welcome two of Australia’s best dance/theatre companies, Chunky Move and Restless Dance Theatre, as well as renowned violinist Maxim Vengerov and Girl, Other, Woman writer Bernardine Evaristo OBE, as well as a timely and thought-provoking free exhibition featuring some of the biggest names in modern and contemporary British art.

“We’re also hosting more free events and activities this season, including Jazz Fridays with The Moloney Trio in Benugo (starting Oct. 7), while our three cinema screens will continue to offer both Hollywood blockbusters and special one-off screenings of films you can’t see anywhere else in the county.”

CASH OBTAINED BY COVENTRY COUNCIL TO ASSIST WITH TRANSPORT NETWORK

Major cash is obtained by the council to assist alter Coventry’s transportation infrastructure

Coventry City Council has obtained grant cash of £115.9 million to assist in decarbonizing and enhancing the city’s transportation infrastructure.

Grants

Following a successful submission to the Department of Transportation’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement, the majority of the cash was obtained (CRSTS). Sustrans’ Paths for Everyone grant and the WMCA’s Active Travel Fund both provided further funds.

The funds will be addressed in the Cabinet meeting on August 30 before being presented to the Full Council on September 6. If granted, the funds will be used to finance many cutting-edge transportation plans around the city.

Bike, walk, and public transportation

Through the implementation of various sustainable transportation initiatives, all of the programmes aim to make it simpler for people to bike, walk, or take public transportation around the city. These actions include things like concentrating road network upgrades, setting up new cycling and pedestrian paths, and enhancing connectivity throughout the transportation system.

Additionally, a sizable portion of the cash will support the cutting-edge Coventry Very Light Rail project. The funds will be used to assist the construction of this innovative plan, which, if complete, will provide city residents and tourists with an accessible and dependable light rail system.

Climate change

The Council hopes to encourage inhabitants to use alternatives to the private vehicle by investing in this infrastructure and promoting sustainable transportation in the city. If successful, this would help the city do its lot to combat the causes of climate change by drastically reducing the amount of emissions produced by the city’s transportation system.

The CRSTS, WMCA’s Active Travel Fund, and Sustrans Paths for Everyone cash will be added to by up to £26.8 million in match funding, which is a combination of private and public sector investment, for the projects.

The funds will be considered by the Cabinet on August 30 before being put to a vote by the Full Council on September 6.

Cllr Jim O’Boyle said: “We know that in order to play our part in tackling the causes of climate change we need to make fundamental changes to our city’s transport network.

“We have to encourage people to choose alternatives to the private car for some journeys and to do that we have to make sure that walking, cycling and public transport are attractive and viable alternatives in our city.

“That’s why I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to secure such a significant amount of funding to help us do this. This funding will help us to lead a number of projects that will play a major role in the green transformation of our city’s transport network. Along with the all-electric bus fleet, fully segregated cycle routes and more on street charge points than anywhere else outside London our ambition is to enable local people to be able to make real choices about how they travel sustainably.

“As we’ve said before, in Coventry we don’t want to just talk about climate change. We want to actually tackle it. With this funding and the schemes that we get as a result of it, we’ll be doing just that. “
