    GAME OFF! – Coventry Sphinx see derby clash against Racing Club Warwick postponed due to waterlogged pitch

    Weather permitting, Coventry are next in action against St Neots Town on Saturday, February 14 with kick-off at 3pm at Kester Way. A rearranged date for the Northern Premier League Midlands fixture will be confirmed in due course.     £1,000 reward on offer to help police find pair with links to Rugby and Coventry

    Brady Winterburn, 21, and Tyrese Thomas, 22, have links to Rugby and Coventry. Officers want to speak to the pair in connection with an aggravated burglary that took place at a flat in Rugby on Monday January 19. The reward is for information given exclusively to Crimestoppers which helps police to locate the pair.     FOOTBALL – Coventry City youngsters depart club on loan until end of season

    The 20-year-old joined the Dale last month on a short-term loan deal. The defender has helped league leaders Rochdale embark on a six-game winning run, recording four clean sheets in the process. Elsewhere, forward Dausch will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Scunthorpe United in the National League North. The United States of America under-20 international joins a side who sit third in the table.

    West Midlands parents say school gates ‘too dangerous’ to walk to school

    Parents in the West Midlands reluctant to allow their children to walk to school alone. West Midlands Combined Authority said it would tackle the issue by introducing a campaign, which could see limits on cars parking outside school. The ‘Kids Streets’ policy is headed by Active Travel Commissioner, Beccy Marston. She said: “As a parent myself, when I get to the school gates I am dominated by cars pulling up on the pavement and pulling off without looking”

    Afghan asylum seeker found guilty of raping 12-year-old in Nuneaton

    Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, was found guilty of rape and two counts of sexual assault. He admitted a further rape charge before his trial at Warwick Crown Court. Jurors also convicted him of child abduction and taking an indecent video. His co-defendant, Mohammad Kabir, was acquitted of charges of intentional strangulation and attempted child abduction. Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and Warwickshire County Council leader George Finch claimed there had been a “cover-up” of details about the attack.

    Mother of teenager who died in suspected ‘suicide pact’ tells inquest of son’s mental health issues

    Jack Williams, 18, and Katherine Powell, 17, were found at Bothenhampton reservoir, near Bridport, Dorset, on the morning of January 25 2022. The Bournemouth inquest has heard that the pair had been arrested on suspicion of possession of an indecent image of a child six days earlier. In a statement read to the court, Mr Williams’ mother, Debbie Williams, said that her son was a “much-loved baby” and his birth was the “happiest day of my life”

    Woman in her 20s in ‘serious condition’ after Coventry collision

    Woman in her 20s is in a serious condition in hospital after collision in Coventry. Driver remained at the scene and is helping police with their enquiries. Officers are looking for anyone who witnessed the accident or has footage from the area.     Moment woman in dressing gown dumps mattress in Coventry

    CCTV shows a woman in a dressing gown and a man in a brightly coloured top fly-tipping a mattress. Both were spotted dumping the mattress on Edgwick Road in Foleshill. Another clip shows a man dragging a bed along before dumping it on Holmsdale Road. Coventry City Council is also looking for a woman who was seen dumping bin bags on Caludon Road in Stoke.

    New project launching in Coventry aims to make it safer for kids to walk to school

    West Midlands Active Travel Commissioner Beccy Marston and Road Safety Commissioner Mat MacDonald will deliver ‘Kids Streets’ The aim of the scheme is to encourage healthier modes of travel by youngsters, improve road safety and slash congestion at peak times. Some of the measures that could come in include restricting vehicle movements on roads around schools at the start and end of days. Utilising new powers to tackle the widespread issue of pavement parking could also play a major role in the initiative.

    Pet snake was on the loose in Warwickshire for four months before turning up in garden shed

    Crimson the corn snake was found four months after escaping his Leamington home. Owner Cheyane Compton thought her beloved pet snake was gone for good. After sharing the find online, local reptile expert Mark Henderson came to the rescue, and between him, Pets at Home and KBN Reptiles, the snake was looked after. The snake has now been reunited with his owner.

    West Midlands paramedic stole morphine after ‘breaking down’ over 100-hour weeks

    Guy Carman worked 100 hours a week during the Coronavirus pandemic. The father ‘lost his moral stance’ and ‘self-administered’ morphine. He ‘falsified’ medical records in an attempt to conceal his actions. He even continued to drive ambulances after administering the drug to himself. A panel has now determined that Carman’s fitness to practise was impaired and has removed him from the medical register.

    The ‘crucial’ moment in a Nuneaton shop that led police to Afghan rapist of girl, 12

    Ahmad Mulakhil used his card to pay for items in the Premier store in Edward Street. The 23-year-old was unknown to the victim but police managed to trace him via the card he used to buy the two drinks on July 22 last year. Detective Inspector Collette O’Keefe who headed up the case, described the moment as ‘crucial’ to the case.

    Afghan asylum seeker guilty of raping girl, 12

    Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, took the girl to a quiet cul-de-sac in Nuneaton. He was found guilty of rape, abduction, sexual assault and taking an indecent video of the girl. Co-defendant Mohammad Kabir, 24, was found not guilty of strangulation. Case prompted changes to guidance on reporting the nationality and immigration status of people arrested and charged.

    British Museum to keep pendant linked to Henry VIII

    The British Museum has successfully raised £3.5m to keep a gold pendant. The pendant was found by a metal detectorist in a Warwickshire field in 2019. The museum launched a fundraising appeal in October so it could permanently acquire the Tudor Heart. It has now announced that it reached its fundraising goal after receiving £360,000 in public donations and donations from grants, trusts and arts organisations.

    Woman struck by car seriously injured

    Woman, in her 20s, was taken to hospital with a head injury. West Midlands Police said the driver of the car remained at the scene. They are appealing for witnesses as part of their investigation. The incident happened at the junction of Beechwood Avenue and Kenilworth Road in Coventry before 15:30 GMT on Monday. The woman remains in a serious condition in hospital, police said.

    Fly-tippers caught in council wall of shame

    CCTV footage shows residents dumping mattresses, fold-up beds and bags of rubbish. Council asks members of the public to email them if they recognise anyone in the footage. Fly-tipping is the dumping of rubbish on private or council-owned land without permission, or rubbish dumped on land where the owners do not have a Waste Management Licence. Rugby Borough Council have approved a Local Plan supporting proposals to bring the speedway back. Experts from Birmingham, Coventry and Wolverhampton will be at the event.

    Travel costs could scupper Tokyo Marathon dream

    Chloe Couture, 19, has Cerebral Palsy, severe visual impairments and other major health issues. Her father Stephan pushes her in a custom-built wheelchair around race routes. He was hoping to do the same in Japan on 1 March after being offered a place by charity MS-UK. But he said the lowest cost of flights had been quoted at £18,000, before accommodation and other bills.
