Ambulance Trust celebrates 16 years of apprenticeships
National Apprenticeship Week runs from February 9 to 15. WMAS was one of the first Ambulance Trusts approved as an App apprenticeship Main Training Provider. The Trust currently has 11 apprenticeship programmes and works in collaboration with six partner universities and 8 apprenticeship training providers and colleges to facilitate staff’s progression. Since their introduction, the Trust has seen over 1,850 apprentices past and present.

FOOTBALL – Coventry United discover FA Vase quarter-final opponents
Haywards Heath and Stoneham sit top of their respective leagues. Haywards Heath top the Southern Combination League Premier Division. Stoneham lead the way in the Wessex Football League Premier division. Coventry United beat former winners North Shields 2-1 to reach the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time in their history. Winning clubs will receive £4,125 while losing clubs will take home £1,300.

Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) cases involving Jennifer Melle and four of the Darlington nurses. Ms Phillipson affirmed that no one should ever have to endure the racial abuse Jennifer experienced. She added that no teacher should be compelled to use someone’s preferred pronouns in an educational setting. Their comments effectively vindicate Jennifer, who was punished, investigated, suspended, and reported as a “risk” to the public.

Disused Coventry council land could become green spaces
Plans to turn disused council land in Coventry into community growing spaces. Wildflowers, food crops and trees could be planted to boost biodiversity. Scheme aims to tackle inequalities in access to green space. Cllr Rupinder Singh raised concern about ensuring leases were only handed to legitimate people. He said: “We need to be clear that it is to increase the biodiversity, no other purpose.”

Man charged with attempted kidnap after incident in Coventry
A 24-year-old man has been charged with attempted kidnap after an incident in Coventry. A suspect attempted to drag a man into a property, but the man managed to flee. Police say their enquiries are ongoing into what happened and after CCTV work a further potential victim has been identified. Anyone who recognises them, has any CCTV footage, or was driving along The Mount at the junction of Queen Isabels Avenue and has dashcam footage is asked to call West Midlands Police.

Local community rallies to support community after flat fire
A fire tore through a block of flats on Sydenham Drive, Leamington Spa. The fire occurred on Tuesday in the Fallow Hill flats, prompting an evacuation of residents as fire crews battled the flames. At least one family has reportedly been left homeless after the fire. A fundraising campaign set up by a 13-year-old friend of the affected family has already surpassed £1,400 within hours of launch.

Well known UK chicken chain set to open branch in Nuneaton town centre
Plans submitted to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council for a Pepe’s Peri Peri chicken eatery. At one stage a branch was set to open at the former Luxe Lounge on Bond Gate, but this did not materialise. It is proposed that the ground floor of what was the old Tiny Town play world in Abbey Street plays home to one of the eateries. The application is now being considered by planning officers at the Town Hall.

Cycle lane branded ‘most unpopular’ under fire amid calls to scrap scheme
Two-way cycle track was installed on Blossomfield Road in 2022. Residents voiced their opinions during a consultation period that ended on February 2. The topic was brought up at the latest full council meeting on February 3. A total of £498,204 from government funding is proposed to be used to replace existing bolt down orca kerbs and wands along the route with traditional kerbs. Councillor Michael Gough, leader of the Reform group, said the cycle lane is arguably the most unpopular scheme this council has ever undertaken.

The CV post code where house prices are rising fastest
Data from 2025 shows that the average house price for most CV postcodes is on the rise. While this reflects national trends, there is one area in particular where the average price has jumped significantly. According to the Land Registry, there are a number of CV post codes where theAverage house price has come down in comparison to 2024. See the list in order of which have risen the most below.

Coventry Greggs closing after reaching the ‘end of its lease’
Greggs in Ball Hill is due to close over the coming weeks as it comes to the end of its lease. Staff are said to have been offered roles at other branches in Coventry. Bosses say this forms part of Greggs’ estate development and includes plans to open 120 new shops across the UK. Expansion is continuing as part of a long-term strategy to bring the total number of stores to over 3,000.

Fury over ‘brazen fare-dodging students’ on Coventry train service
Complaints made about fare-dodging students on Coventry to Nuneaton service. One passenger described it as ‘extreme’ fare evasion and ‘vaping’ on the train. West Midlands Railways said senior conductors are present on all services. Any issued should be flagged with them or British Transport Police, they said. WMR said it is investing in recruiting more revenue protection and security managers to prevent fare evasion.

Force that charged woman who accused policeman of rape investigated
Ruth reported the alleged rape in early 2020, seven months after she split up. She was interviewed by two female officers and the suspect was arrested. But within weeks he was told there would be no further action against him. Ruth was investigated instead and charged with perverting the course of justice. The Independent Office for Police Conduct has confirmed it will look into the actions of Warwickshire Police and how officers handled the case.

Boy’s derelict building warning after 20ft fall
Dylan, from Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, fell through fibreglass ceiling. Suffered several broken bones and internal injuries. Spent three weeks in hospital and needed physiotherapy to help him walk again. His mum, Abby, said: “We want to share this story as a warning to others not to enter empty buildings. They can have very unsafe structures inside”

Teenager fundraises after fire makes friend homeless
13-year-old Lucas started the online fundraiser just hours after the fire. His mum posted on Facebook asking for donations of clothes and other items. Local pub The Fusilier has been taking in donations, Sharon said. Three of the families need to be rehoused, while the fourth will be able to return as their property is habitable. The inquiry is likely to address whether any officers who worked on the case should be disciplined.

Afghan rapist of girl caught after buying drinks
Ahmad Mulakhil was found guilty of rape, abduction, sexual assault and taking an indecent video of the victim, in Nuneaton. Warwickshire Police said they tracked down the 23-year-old after he was caught on CCTV buying the drinks just after leaving the rape scene. Co-defendant Mohammad Kabir, 24, was found not guilty of strangulation, attempted child abduction and attempting to commit a sexual offence.

First Michelin star ‘is incredible feeling’
The Boat in Lichfield, Staffordshire, awarded its first Michelin star on Monday. Chef Liam Dillon said it was a “surreal experience” for the Staffordshire restaurant. The Wilderness in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter was also recognised with a star. Adam’s in the city centre and Simpsons in Edgbaston both kept their stars for 2026-2027. Indian restaurant Opheem kept its two-star status.
