M5 J8 northbound access | Northbound | Road Works
Roadworks are planned on the M5 northbound entry slip at junction J8. Lanes 1 and 2 will be closed. Expect disruption everyday between 20:00 and 06:00 from 14 April 2026 to 18 April 20 26. All lanes on the northbound carriageway will also be closed for the duration of the work. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the year. For more information on the work click here.

The M5 northbound between junctions J9 and J8 will be closed for roadworks. There will be one of three lanes closed between 21:00 and 06:00 on 24 February 2026. Roadworks will take place between junction J9 and junction J8. The M5 is one of the busiest roads in the UK. It is expected to be open by the end of the year.

The hard shoulder and lane 1 are closed on the M5 northbound between junctions J7 and J6. Expect disruption until 06:00 on 19 February 2026. There is one of three lanes closed. The hard shoulder is closed and the lane 1 lane is closed. It is expected to be closed for up to two weeks. The M5 is currently closed between J6 and J7 for planned roadworks.

16 February 2026West Midlands Fire and Rescue Authority approves budget for 2026-27 Refreshed strategy also agreed at February meeting
West Midlands Fire and Rescue Authority (WMFRA) has approved its budget for 2026-27, alongside the refreshed West Midlands Fire Service Strategy. Members approved a net revenue budget of £146.408 million for 20 26-27. WMFRA also set its Council Tax precept at £85.19 for a Band D property, an annual increase of £5.00. A key part of the plan is investment in the service’s fleet and specialist capability.

Celebrate Lunar New Year in Coventry
The Lunar New Year is celebrated on 17 February this year. It marks the start of a new zodiac cycle in the lunar calendar. 2026 is the year of the Fire Horse, which represents strength, vitality, and action. People born in 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, or 2014 are considered to be a horse. The celebration lasts for 15 days, ending with the Lantern Festival.

Cancer patients to receive maintenance treatments in their own homes thanks to nurse-led community oncology pilot service
Nurse-led community oncology service at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust. Early-stage breast and gynae-oncology cancer patients no longer have to go into hospital to be reviewed, prescribed and collect their oral Systemic Anti-Cancer (SACT) treatments. Maintenance treatments are offered once patients complete chemotherapy or radiotherapy and are prescribed on a longer-term basis.

Keep Pancake Day fun for you… and your drains!
Severn Trent is reminding customers to enjoy their pancakes without accidentally cooking up a fatberg underground. The message this year is simple; have a flipping great day, but keep batter and grease in the bin, not the drain. Last year, Severn Trent teams cleared nearly 30,000 sewer blockages across the region, many caused by fats, oils, greases (FOG) and wipes that were never meant for drains.

Attendees will have access to training providers, employability workshops, early careers experts and practical, hands-on support.
