What is Rishi Sunak doing now and can he be automatically offered the post of Prime Minister if Liz Truss resigns?
If Liz Truss resigns, a leadership election process is expected to begin again and the position is not offered to the runner up. As the Conservative MP for Richmond, Yorkshire, Rishi Sunak is still a member of parliament and has been in that position since 2015.
The former chancellor stated that his role “today is basically to back a Conservative administration”. However, he did not rule out a future bid for prime minister, adding that he would need time “to heal” from his last campaign.
At the Conservative leadership race, Sunak criticised Truss’ proposals to slash taxes, saying her during a TV discussion that the UK would be unable to “borrow its way out of inflation.” But there hasn’t been much news about the former Chancellor since he lost the Tory leadership race. Many people are now inquiring what happened to Rishi Sunak, just as they did when Boris Johnson resigned from his position as Number 10 and left many wondering where he would live.
Is Rishi Sunak still in government?
Rishi Sunak formerly held the position of Chancellor of the Exchequer from February 2020 to July 2022, but he was one of many ministers to leave Boris Johnson’s administration as a result of the Chris Pincher incident. He is no longer in the Government.
Nadhim Zahawi then assumed the position of Chancellor, holding it until September 2022, when Liz Truss assumed the office of Prime Minister and named Kwasi Kwarteng to the position.
I am very committed to my constituents in North Yorkshire, and as long as they will have me, I plan to keep serving them not just in the immediate future but also at the next election, Sunak said to the media, despite the fact that he no longer has a position in government and lost the Conservative leadership contest.

But where is Rishi Sunak now, especially as he missed the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham in October 2022. Rishi Sunak is thought to be in his Richmond district. In also lives in Yorkshire with his wife, the fashion designer Akshata Murthy, and two daughters, Krishna and Anoushka,
When Sunak announced that he, along with other Senior Tories would not be attending the Conservative party conference, suspicions about his whereabouts arose. Although Sunak’s absence has not been given an official explanation, many have theorised that it would indicate that Liz Truss, the new prime minister, is not well-liked.
Other Conservative MPs have publicly criticised the new government’s economic policies after the release of the mini budget. Former Secretary of State for Levelling Up Michael Gove said to the BBC that borrowing money to pay for tax cuts was “not Conservative.”
