The petition was started by the Daily Mirror who have stated :
“The Mirror believes Mr Lineker should be able to return to our screens as soon as possible. The Mirror has launched a petition calling for Lineker to be reinstated. We urge anyone who values liberty and free speech to sign it“.
Gary Lineker was forced to withdraw from hosting Match of the Day after criticising the government’s migrant policy in a tweet. Supporters of Gary believe he should be permitted to express his personal opinions on current events as a self-employed sports caster.
Numerous other BBC personalities have shared divisive viewpoints on social media without permission.
Gary Lineker did precisely that in a series of tweets. He complained to the government about their cruel and inhumane approaches to stopping illegal immigration.
Right-wing Politicians instantly demanded that the freelance sports broadcaster be fired from the BBC, refusing to acknowledge that he was coming from a place of true compassion.
Lineker being removed from the broadcast is hypocritical. Richard Sharp, the chairman of the BBC, is still in his position despite assisting in arranging a financial guarantee for Boris Johnson. He assisted in setting up an £800,000 loan for the former Tory Prime Minister Boris Johnson while he was searching for a job, BBC chair Richard Sharp is still in his position.
Even though they expressed right-wing opinions, other presenters weren’t silenced.
By Saturday lunchtine, the petition reached 150,000 signatures.

What did Gary Lineker Tweet that got him suspended from Match of the day this weekend?
In response to the Illegal Migration Bill, which prohibits immigrants from residing in Britain if they enter on tiny boats Gary Lineker tweeter the following:
“There is no huge influx. We take far fewer refugees than other major European countries. This is just an immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s, and I’m out of order?“
