The War Memorial Park is a wide park in southern Coventry, England, occupying about 48.5 hectares. The park was dedicated in July 1921 as a memorial to the 2,587 Coventrians who died fighting in the First World War between 1914 and 1918. The park’s landscaped gardens and sports fields were designed in the late 1920s and 1930s, and the city’s war memorial statue, which was built in 1927, is the park’s most prominent structure.
Football pitches, bowling greens, a small golf course, tennis courts, a splash and play field, a small bird aviary, and a skateboard area are among the park’s attractions, but it largely consists of large open green fields with many trees and shrubberies. Following completion of groundwork on the park’s south-western section in the summer of 2006, a perimeter road lies just within the park’s borders and now encircles the whole park.
The Godiva Festival, Donkey Derby, Caribbean Festival, and Vaisakhi Mela are only a few of the annual activities held at the park. Every Saturday, the park hosts parkruns, which are open, timed 5km (3.1mi) runs that draw over 300 spectators.
